How to : «Calibrate an image»

Calibrating images is essential to make sense of measurements in an image. This article takes the user through the process of applying spatial and temporal calibrations to an image set.

Calibrations in image analysis come in two forms: Spatial and Temporal.

Spatial Calibrations

Spatial calibrations are needed to know how large things are in X,Y and Z, and Temporal calibrations are needed to know how fast things move through time.

To set the Pixel calibration we go to Data> Pixel Size

Here the user can set the width of pixels in each of the X ,Y and Z dimensions independently.

Remember to put in units or the offending field will be highlighted in red to show that it is missing information.
Note that, as of arivis Vision4D 3.3, it is possible to add calibrations to every set in a batch simultaneously by selecting them from the Image Set drop-down list.

Temporal calibrations

Setting the temporal calibration is done through the Info Viewer.

In the Info Viewer, click on Edit at the end of the Number of Sets field.

Right-click on any time point and select the option to Set Time Interval...

Enter the desired time interval.

Note that the time interval is assumed to be the same for every time point. Also, if the specific time is important (e.g. FRAP experiments), it can be set for any of the time points by right-clicking on that time point and setting the date and time.
